WearMap Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 8, 2026. This policy is for general information and is not legal advice. Have your counsel review it before you rely on it commercially.
This policy describes how m23n (“we,” “us”) intends to handle information when you use WearMap, our offline turn-by-turn navigation app for Wear OS and its companion phone app. WearMap is under active development; features, data practices, and this policy may be updated before or after public release. By using WearMap when it is available, you acknowledge the then-current version of this policy.
No account required: WearMap is designed to work without a user account or sign-in. Map data, routes, and search indexes are computed and stored on your own devices.
1. Who we are
For privacy requests and questions, contact us at support@m23n.com.
2. Categories of information (anticipated)
The list below describes categories of information that may be involved depending on how WearMap is implemented and which features you enable. Not all categories may apply in early releases.
2.1 Location data
WearMap uses your device’s GPS (and network-assisted location where available) to show your position on the map, compute routes, and provide turn-by-turn guidance while navigation is active. Location is processed on-device to power features such as off-route detection, ETA, and voice/haptic prompts. We do not intend to sell your location data.
2.2 Offline maps & routing data
Map tiles, points of interest, and routing graphs for the regions you choose to download are fetched from our content delivery infrastructure and stored locally on your device (for example under app- specific storage) so navigation and search can work offline. Route computation happens on-device; we do not intend to send your destinations to third-party mapping or directions services.
2.3 Search & destinations
Search queries you type and destinations you select (including locations shared into WearMap from other apps, such as a “share location” or “open with” action) are used to find places and compute routes. Recent destinations may be stored locally on your device for convenience.
2.4 Phone ↔ watch sync
WearMap uses the Wear OS DataLayer (Google Play services) to sync active-navigation state, route geometry, and commands (for example mute, stop, recenter) between your phone and watch over Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi. This sync is local to your devices and is not intended to pass through servers we operate.
2.5 Notifications
While navigation is active, WearMap shows a persistent notification (for example distance and ETA) as required by Android for foreground location services. This does not involve remote push notification services unless a future feature specifically requires them.
2.6 Sharing & export
If you use a “share to” or GPX export feature, WearMap may generate a file containing the route or location you chose and hand it to the app you selected (for example a messaging app), using Android’s standard sharing mechanisms. We do not otherwise transmit this data to ourselves or third parties.
2.7 Purchases & subscriptions
If WearMap offers optional paid features (for example offline regions beyond a free limit), transaction and entitlement data may be processed by Apple, Google Play, and/or providers such as RevenueCat, according to their policies and only as needed to validate access.
2.8 Analytics & diagnostics
We may use analytics and crash reporting (for example Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics) to improve stability and understand aggregate usage, subject to platform rules and your device settings.
3. How we use information
- Show your position, compute routes, and provide turn-by-turn guidance
- Download and store the offline map regions you choose
- Keep your watch and phone navigation state in sync when applicable
- Validate subscriptions and prevent abuse
- Improve the product, secure our systems, and fix bugs
- Comply with law and respond to lawful requests
4. Retention & deletion
Location, search, and offline map data are primarily stored on your device and are removed when you delete a downloaded region, clear app data, or uninstall WearMap. We keep any information processed on infrastructure we operate only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Contact support@m23n.com with questions about development builds.
5. Children
WearMap is not directed to children. Do not use WearMap in a way that violates applicable child-privacy laws.
6. Changes
We may update this policy as WearMap evolves. We will post the current version on this page and may provide additional notice for material changes (for example in the app or by email where appropriate).
7. Related policies
Our website and WristChat (Slack) are covered by a separate policy: Privacy Policy (WristChat & m23n.com).
